The Board of County Commissioners of Kay
County, Oklahoma, met in regular session at
Chairman Steve Austin called the meeting to
order. Those present were as follows:
Dee Schieber, Vice-Chairman; Laile Wilson,
Member; Mary Ramey, Kay County Court Clerk; Everette Van Hoesen, Kay County
Sheriff; Steve Kelly, Kay County Undersheriff; Larry Klumpp, OSU Extension; Scott
Cloud, Newkirk Herald Journal; Sharon Rowen, Ponca City News; Tammy Reese, Kay
County Clerk/Secretary (see sign in sheet).
Motion was made by Schieber and seconded by
Jail Issues: Sheriff Van Hoesen reported December 2008
monthly average inmate count as 116; and 102 for the daily inmate count.
Undersheriff Kelly told the commissioners
he received a tip that a contraband drop was going to made on Saturday
night. Jail officials caught five
inmates and now they face charges with conspiracy to escape and possession of
contraband. Kelly showed commissioners
some of the items that were seized which included a screw driver, knife, candy,
tobacco and marijuana.
Roads and Bridge Projects, Circuit
Engineering District (
Chairman Austin reported problems regarding
heating and cooling units for the courthouse.
He said the coil, chiller and main pump on boiler would need replaced in
the near future and told other two commissioners this would be a major expense.
